Humbling moments Unearth hidden feelings Milling around beneath the surface, Interrupt plans, Lay out alternatives, Illumine new possibilities, Turn us around, and ask us to say Yes!
O God, hear this simple prayer— Not a prayer perfectly pieced together, Not a prayer eloquently said, But a prayer humbly offered on this sacred day. God, as I journey into this season of Lent, I long to renew my commitment to You. But, I am still figuring out the best way to do that. I embrace this lack of clarity, trusting that you will guide me all along the way. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Prayerful thoughts after reading Matthew 21:1-17 O God, who in Jesus made grand entrances in the humblest form, Teach us to embrace celebration with humility, to oppose injustice, to resist evil, to offer healing, and to follow your lead. For these are the ways of Jesus, the blessed one, the sent one, Who reveals the unfolding reign of God. O God, who in Jesus made grand entrances in the humblest form, Prepare our bodies, minds, and souls to follow Jesus, So that we, too, may reveal your unfolding reign. Amen.
Spirit of God, We talk and talk and talk, But what are we saying? Do we know? At times, we think we know. We claim to know. We convince ourselves and others That we know; and yet, in turn, We shut out a world of possibilities. God of possibilities, Enlarge our understanding. Grant us the grace to be more open and the humility to embrace the wonder and mystery of your ways. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
O God, I’m on a treasure hunt, searching for the tools you’ve placed in my surroundings. Undoubtedly I already use some of these tools, and so I pray I won’t take advantage but instead, use them generously with gratitude and humility. Some other tools, I hardly use, and so I pray I may rediscover these tools at my disposal, and that I may learn or relearn how to use them effectively.
There’s another set of tools, somewhat hidden in this world. These tools seem to lie beyond my reach, or out of sight in some way. Help me persevere in the hope of finding and using these tools effectively for your glory. And please help me avoid complacency or lack of inspiration for the search. But God, may I progress with attentiveness and depth as an instrument of your good work in this world. In your blessed name I pray, Amen.
