God, help me find your rhythm in the irregularities of life. Let me find your steady beat In the strange. Free my mind and soul to ride The sound waves of your call. And give me the grace to improvise.
When things don’t go my way And I clench my fists And my head aches And my hands tremble And I don’t know what to do Show me where grace resides The grace I buried down deep inside The grace I haven’t tended And won’t let grow But that hasn’t gone away Remind me of your grace, O God The grace all around me The grace found within Your grace that remains Amen
Whispering Wind, Mysterious Guide, Let me feel your push and your pull, Let me discern your wild ways And hear your summoning sighs. Whispering Wind, Spiritual Guide, Let me lean into your grace, Let me know your presence divine, Let me trust this wild ride.
We don’t always know what to say, And so we um and ah and second guess Whatever words we find in the moment. We can’t always hold back the tears, And so we pause, breathe, cough, try to utter something intelligible without breaking down. We can’t fit the molds we construct for ourselves, And when we try to no avail, we simply reveal Just how human we actually are. God, Creator of Humanity, Show us how to embrace the very humanness we hide, For those moments that reveal how human we are Overflow with your spirit and grace.
In this moment, I feel the warmth of the Sun Inviting souls to join the community outdoors, Lifting the weight of winter (if only for a moment), And healing the distressing darkness deep within. In this moment, I feel the warmth of the Son Inviting broken souls to join the kin(g)dom of God, Lifting the weight of hopelessness, And healing the unlit places in our lives. In this moment, I feel the sun shower upon me sensations and reminders of Divine Grace; And as I look ahead, I expect to see clouds, rain, snow, And still more sensations and reminders of God’s grace. For, God does not rise and set with the sun, But speaks through all seasons and remains for all time.
“How silently, how silently, the wondrous gift is given.” (Phillips Brooks) God, you gave us a gift when you entered the material world, and you continue to gift us with your presence today. But so often we fail to recognize your spirit with us, And we tune out the music of your gifts. We need your help, O gracious God, to silence the noise from our busy, anxious, stressful lives, so we may more fully receive the gift of your grace and spirit. Help us, we pray. Help us see and receive your wondrous gifts Today, tomorrow, and the next day. Amen.
Gracious and Merciful God, Whose radical forgiveness we can’t fully fathom, Fill us with your grace, and enlarge our capacity to forgive; So that we can break free from the ways of judgment and hate And learn to be more like Jesus. In his name, we pray. Amen. “Then Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing…” Luke 23:24 NRSV
The following prayer can be sung to this Irish tune Beauty of sunlight and hope in my soul, Show me the way to illumine the world. When days are dreary and trials set in, May I remember the hope that you give. Though I have stumbled and turned from your ways, You meet my faults with a gracious refrain. You guide me onward down more loving roads Where hope still blossoms and grace overflows. Hymn tune: SLANE (Be Thou My Vision)
Spirit of God, We talk and talk and talk, But what are we saying? Do we know? At times, we think we know. We claim to know. We convince ourselves and others That we know; and yet, in turn, We shut out a world of possibilities. God of possibilities, Enlarge our understanding. Grant us the grace to be more open and the humility to embrace the wonder and mystery of your ways. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
