O God, I have questions with no obvious answers, questions not fully formed. I have this longing, this curiosity. And, I know it’s your Spirit working in me. I know you’re asking something of me, Though I am not sure what exactly. God, all I can do is commit to exploring, To lean into this feeling, and continue the work of discernment. Help me draw near to you in this process. Show me the way. Let me be. Amen.
O God, whose ways are not ways of isolation but of love, give us eyes like the discerning eyes of Jesus, so we may see those in need of companionship. And help us take steps to provide the love and companionship that these people need. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen. “When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, Woman, here is your son.’ Then he said to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.’ And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.” John 19:26-27 NRSV
Gracious God, in the course of our daily lives, we hear many different voices: work, family, and many other responsibilities call out to us. And, we let our noisy lives desensitize us to the sound of your call. Forgive us, we pray, for the times we were deaf to the sound of your voice in a stranger or friend. Forgive us, God, for the times we ignored the voice of the Spirit calling from within us. Forgive our failure to listen, Lord, and remind us to listen again. Help us hear with discerning ears, so we may respond in faith and love. Amen
Gracious and Loving God, your presence remains somewhat mysterious to us. Sometimes you fill us with hope and love, But other times we wonder if you are there at all. The dark seems unbearable, the burdens weigh us down, Grief overstays its welcome, and Confusion of purpose sends us in dizzying Spirals of discernment. Your presence is somewhat mysterious to us. Yet we sense it when we least expect it. You fill us with hope and love again Before we plummet to the point beyond repair. Yes, you fill us with hope and love, So we may live and share of your abundance.
