O God, there are occasions for celebration, And yet so many concerns call out for our attention. They leave us wondering how to hold this tension between the grim and the glorious. And so, O God, we pray for hope— but not just any kind of hope— A hope so large that it can hold Our celebrations and our concerns.
God, through Jesus we learn that you remember the needs of your children. Help us to remember them as well. Prompt us to show others care and concern, so they may know that you remember their needs. For indeed, they are your children. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen. “Then he [one of the criminals] said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ [Jesus] replied, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.’” Luke 23:42-43 NRSV
