A prayerful response to Isaiah 40: 28-31

Eternal God,

you do not tire in the work of generating and sustaining life.

Neither do you grow weary or impatient.

But God, you know that we do.

“Even youths will faint and be weary…”

when work builds up,

and rest takes a backseat,

when our health is compromised,

and family concerns arise,

when our minds are on overload,

and when the efforts for justice and reconciliation

seem oh so ineffective.

We tire, grow weary and impatient, God;

and, waiting seems like an insurmountable feat.

“But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,”

and so we strive to wait.

With your Spirit, O God, help us wait,

so we “shall run and not be weary”

as we respond to your call

and do your work in this world.

In Jesus’ name, we pray.

Amen.
