The Parable of the Two Sons: Prayerfully retold in sonnet form
A father said, “Son, go and work today.”
But that dear son, he answered, “I will not.”
Then later, he did choose to change his ways
And did not what he said but what he ought
A father called a second son to say
“Son, go and work beneath the sunlit sky.”
The second son did answer, “Straight away.”
But then, he did not honor his reply.
In telling this one parable, Christ asked,
“Which son did honor his dear father’s will?”
And we’re reminded then of our own task
We offer words, but which do we fulfill?
Dear God, today, in everything we do
May we respond and also follow through
