Eyes of the Travelers (Emmaus)

Two travelers joined by Jesus on the road
Their eyes were kept from recognizing Him
Instead they carried a despondent load
And spoke of recent tragedy, so grim

The visitor unknown inquired of them
He sought to learn of what the two did speak
“A stranger dwelling in Jerusalem—
You would have known the trials of these weeks”

They didn’t know this stranger was their God
Who served on earth, had died, and rose again
They didn’t know to praise and give Him laud
Until He blessed and broke the bread. Amen.

What will it take to open our blind eyes
To see God’s workings and divine surprise?
~Based on Luke 24:13-31
